Why children’s foot health matters
Children’s feet are constantly growing and changing. Early assessment and intervention can prevent long-term problems into adolescence and adulthood. Regular podiatry check-ups are just as important as dental check-ups for ensuring proper development.
Common foot and lower limb concerns in children:
- Heel Pain (Sever’s Disease/Calcaneal Apophysitis)
- Osgood-Schlatter Disease (Knee Pain in Adolescents)
- Growing Pains
- Flat Feet, Knock Knees and Bowlegs
- In-toeing and Out-toeing
- Unusual Walking Patterns or Frequent Tripping
- Ingrown Toenails and Verruca Pedis (Plantar Warts)
Signs your child may need a podiatry assessment:
- Complaints of foot, knee, or leg pain, especially after activity.
- Regular tripping, falling, or awkward walking patterns.
- Difficulty keeping up with peers during play or sports.
- Pain in the heels, knees, or lower legs, particularly at night.
- Changes in foot posture, unusual toe shapes, or walking on tiptoes.
