What are blisters?
Blisters are fluid-filled pockets that develop in the upper layers of the skin due to friction, pressure, heat, or moisture buildup. They commonly occur on the feet from poorly fitting shoes, excessive walking or running, and increased skin friction.
Common Causes of Blisters:
- Ill-fitting or tight footwear – Creates excessive friction and pressure.
- New or stiff shoes – Can rub against the skin, causing irritation.
- Moisture and sweat buildup – Soften the skin, making it more prone to damage.
- Increased activity levels – Walking, running, or sports can contribute to friction-related blisters.
- Biomechanical issues – Poor foot posture or movement patterns can increase blister risk.
Signs and Symptoms of Blisters:
- Small fluid-filled sacs on areas of high friction.
- Redness, swelling, and tenderness around the affected area.
- Pain and discomfort when walking or wearing shoes.
- Risk of infection if the blister breaks or worsens.
